| Salzburg, a city of Mozart (above-left, right-top) and the sound of music (above-second to the left), is another nice place to visit. The city has a spectacle fortress castle on the top of the mountain (my photo on the left, below-right) where the entire old town together with the view of Alp mountainous can be seen (above-right, below-left). The whole old city has been awarded by UNESCO to be the world's heritage. There are a number of nice catedrals (above-second to the right and right-bottom), a nice mirabel park (below-second to the left) and an open square where people come to play a hugh set of chess (below-second to the right). |

| Then, I went to join Aun+ and his friends (Kim &Yee) who came to a conference in Innbrukes (Austria). Anyway, instead of going to see them in Innbruke, I decided to meet them in the main railway station (Hauptbahnhof) in Munich (^^'). Luckily that everything went well. I met Aun+ and Koy (his friend & our guide in Munich) there. Then, Koy & her company's Malaysia friend took us out to try the famous pork-leg in the biggest pub, Hofbräuhaus (above-left), where a number of locals sang & dance along while drinking unbelievable huge jugs of beer all night. |
The next day, we took a trip to the famous castle, Nauschwanstein, where Disney copies the style for its sleeping beauty's novel (and hence became one of the main symbols of Disney land. Koy has kindly search for a good promotion and, surprisingly, we have got a really good train deal which allows 5 people to travel there for only 22 euro in total (include return o_O). Thus, we took a train to the valley city named Fussen (which is the town at the end of the famous romantic road). And then, we continued with a short coach trip to the palaces area. There are two palaces around the area. One is the famous Schloss Nauschwanstein and another one is the older & smaller Schloss Hohenschwangau (Note: Schloss == castle). The palaces belong to King Ludwig II who loves art and fantasy tales. He spent a large amount of money on Nauschwanstein and hence being disliked by his own people. As a result, he was declared as 'mad' and died sadly while Nauschwanstein hasn't been completed yet. |
| The yellow castle in the left-handside picture is Hohenschwangau. I quite like its audio-guide tour system, which automatically turns on once everyone is ready in the new room :) The black tall building behind me is the old stable for the palaces. The picture below & second to the left is the horse carriage to Nauschwanstein (we didn't take it since 30 minutes walk upill is still fine with the young people like us ..^_^..) So sad that we came in the wrong season. There were too many snow and all paths to the suspension bridge, where the most beautiful view (see poster below/second from the right) can be seen, are closed because of the snow problem (T_T). Anyway, visitng inside of the castle is also a nice memory. |
This is the map of Neuschwanstein (right). The picture on the above right is the view from the entrance area. The castle has quite a number of visitors but the queueing system is surprisingly excellence. We have got a tour time when we bought tickets (downhill) and can estimate the exact time that we have to come. When it is our time, the entrance will show our tour number and release the door for us to enter. Surprisingly, khun Aun+ lost his ticket to Nauschwanstein along the way :'(... luckily :) ... the numbers of our tickets are in-order and the lost one is in the middle + we still had a bill. Hence, he (& me) can enter through a privilage staff-door and enjoy the time in the palace (@^_^@) |
| The picture on the left is the view in front of the palace's main gate. The left of this moutain is a huge, frozen, lake (below, second from the right). Picture on the below left is the path to Schloss Hohenschwangau when we almost enter the castle. Picture on the below, second from the left is the sign-post style that I've often seen in many Bavaria's tourist places. We finish our tour around 3pm and decided to go back to Fussen for a train at 5pm. So that, we have got time to walk around Fussen for about an hour (@^_^@) By the way, the picture on the most top & right of the Germany section is the munich's famous clock that dances on 11am and 5pm everyday. The picture on the below right is the twin towers of Frauenkirche (note: kirche==church), which is a symbol of munich. It has a history that in its entrance area, there is a footprint of the devil. The devil used to have a contract with the church's architect to build church with no mirror (otherwise, it could not be finished). The architect can build one area where no mirror can be seen and hence made the devil angry (since he could not take the architect's soul). |
Here is the cute map of fussen. We were really lucky because they had a canival parade on that day along the main pedestrian street :)
| One of my strange experience is the time that I walked along the pedestrian area (left) during a chilly winter but still crazy enough to eat ice-cream (^^')... There were quite a number of people eating it and there seems to be a nice 'Italian' ice-cream shop... so we all couldn't help ourselves. Below are the photos from the deuche museum (lucky that we came in its 100 years!). The second & third pictures from the left are me, Aun+ and Yee enjoying our time on the roof where lots of interesting equipments are exhibited. The picture on the most right is a little bit of the munich in white (..^_^..). You may see one of the top of the Frauenkirche tower on the right and the strange lamp-heads below :) |
| We spent another dinner in Munich in Augustiner Keller (below-left). The restaurant (pub?) was nicely decorated for the coming caneval events. The second photo from the right is the strange lamp-heads at night (they decorated all the lamp with funny heads along Kaufinger Strasse (note: Strasse=street), which is the pedrestrain street of Munich. On the next day, khun Aun+ & friends left the white Munich & me in the morning. I have got the entire day to travel alone before going back to join them in Cambridge. So, I have decided to walk around the city again & go to Residenz (left, below-right) |
The royal resident is a really amazing place. It seems quite normal from outside (below-left) but really extra-ordinary beautiful from the inside (right, below & below-second from left). It is nice that they allow the tourist to take photos (no flash). I went to all the rooms (both morning & afternoon tours) + the treasury. So, it is around a hundread rooms in total... (@^_^@) |
| After that, I went to enjoy a nice hot chocolate with the view on the above, second to the right. Then, my journey continue to the BMW museum (above right & the left). The museum is really nice with a number of interactive stuffs + a strange spiral walkway design & self-audio guide tour. I went to see the Olympic stadium (below left) & the museum area (below, second from left) in town and for a little bit. The weather was really freezing cold - it snowed so heavily in the evening and my planed was delayed resulting as a delayed return-trip (7 hours!) |
