The Isle of Wight

Portsmouth

August 2nd @ 7am: we headed off from our lovely Cambridge to the sea-side city named "Portsmouth" in order to catch a Ferry to our destination -- the Isle of Wight.

Khun Aun+ was solo on driving the cute car that we rented from Hertz with a promotional weekend price. The rest of the gang (Sab, P' Mod, Air and me) were sleeping & eating all along the journey...

Unfortunately, because of the nice weather + the international yacht festival on the Isle of Wight, tons of people went to the same destination as us.

We arrived Portsmouth around 10am and went straight to the Ferry but got a queue (after survived from the savere traffic jam) on 4:45pm!!!

Therefore, it is unavoidable to explore Portsmouth during the waiting time...

Besides being faithful to the "eat & art" motto, newnhamites (Air, P' Mod & me) have the unity in a dressing style (see our hats) and travelling habit (photos here are taken by our cameras). Luckily, two non-newnhamites seem to be ok with us (below: Aun+ & Sab).

We went to travel from the shopping quay (see some photos on the top) to the historic area full of ships. For example, the one that I posted with is the "HMS Victory", the most glorious British ship of Lord Nelson in the colonisation period (actually, the bad ship for our region).

First Day in the Isle of Wight

No matter how late we had got a change to cross the sea (almost 6pm!), the sun still set around 9pm... Therefore, load of time for us to travel.

Picture on the left is me @^_^@ during a time that we cross the channel (around half an hour). This photo is for my mum as she once told me to put my close-up face for her to see... so "here you are ka". The weather was really nice that day... sunshire, warm wind and fresh air... So, I feel so happy.

During the journey, we have met some nice people who help us taking a group photo nearby the sea... so here you are again... our gang on the hilly area (but cannot see it cleary here).

After a while (i.e. going through many towns such as Sandown, Shaklin, Venor to see the sea-side view plus get lost in the scary forest for a short while). We arrived our hotel in the middle of "now here" safe & sound.

The hotel is actually the holiday centre... where our room is in a small house having two room (the big one is dedicated to our driver) and a shared toilet/shower room.

That evening, we went to a very wonderful restaurant nearby (note: nearby in terms of "in the middle of now-here").

I, personally, was so impressed by the place. Not only because it has a wonderful play ground (Oops!), but it also have a nice & lovely environment, decoration, location, view and people...

The sad things that I am quite sad about is... we cannot find any lobster to eat there :'(

Second Day in the Isle of Wight

One amazing thing about the hotel is its location. The back of it has a sea and the small 'green' waterfall. The scenary of the Isle of Wight is not like in Thailand because instead of seeing beach from the distance, there are a number of beautiful high crift around the brown & rocky beach area.

The next morning, the triple A gang (see an above right photo) went down to the beach. The sea is a bit cold but quite nice. However, the beach is a little bit dirty from the tourist (so sad). Khun Aun+ has found a number of shells fossil embedded in a rock... We all enjoy finding the rocks + drawing photos on the sand so much ^_^

After a while, Sab and P' Mod follows us to the beach (they came here a late because P' Boy just called Sab from the airport). Thus, we can have a 'gang' photo (see top left - from left - Aun+, Air, me, P' Mod and Sab) and some music video moments.

After a while, we decided to make a move to go to have breakfast & travel to the other half of the Island (note: the hotel is located around the south of the island).

The Needles is a very beautiful landscape of the island on its west most. It used to be a very important place for the wireless communication as well (see information about this on the engraved stone on the right).

I loved the moment there so much... blue sky, blue & green sea... green glasses, violet flowers, white cliffs and a number of yatches around...

After that, we went to the Osborne House - a very beautiful house of Queen Victoria & Prince Albert. I must say that the house is really worth visiting (but they forbit to take any photo inside). The garden are quite nice, especally it overlook the sea with a million of colourful yatches on a blue sea & sky as a spectacle view.

I must say that I have really got a nice time in this short vacation over there. It is not only the place, but also the people whom I travel with...

Thank Khun Aun+ for a wonderful preparation of a trip, driving a car patiently and being an excellent budget controller. Thank Sab for entertaining us with a serie of nice talks and being a great navigator. Thank P' Mod for providing us a nice set of sandwiches and taking a number of nice photos. Thank Air for going along with me (eating & playing), and proofreading my Thesis chapter along the trip! @^_^@
