Explore the ancient city

During the summer break (for undergraduate student), I have got a chance to attend the IBM Workshop (e-business architecture) in Winchester...

Winchester is England's Ancient Capital. It used to be glorious in the past but becomes a pretty small town nowsaday.

Nevertheless, there seems to be a number of remainding pieces of memories around the city.

First, and foremost, I have to mention about the great castle... where only the west gate, passageways (above) and the great hall (left/below) survive until this century.

The most interested thing that draws my main attention in this city is the "round table" of King Arthur (below left). This is because I like the story about the knight of the round table since I was young :) The table is really huge, carving the names of all knights. The figure of the king on the top is as high as the real size of man.

Winchester Cathedral

Winchester is an elegant cathedral. Its gothic architecture seems to be a little bit simpler than the King's college chapel in Cambridge. However the size is larger (though smaller than York Minster).

My impression goes for the beautiful alter area (below). So sad that I could not use a flash in the cathedral (which is actually quite dark)... so, I chose a night mode (e.g. open my camera's shutter for a while) and its outcome results in a blur picture because my hand is a bit unstable.

Nature and living

The Wessex hotel that IBM books for us is excellent. It is right in the city centre next to Winchester Cathedral. Nearby its place is a really beautiful footpath along the river (left) where there are a lot of ducks and swans (the same as Cambridge).

My impression is the purity of the river where we can see through its greeny-seaweed buttom.

Above right is a picture of me trying to catch my shadow (in a mirror) along the corridor through my room (in the hotel).

Left/below is myself enjoying taking photos (after taking a shower) just for fun ;)

Below right is the "trouser press" equipment that I like, it can throughly iron entire trouser in a few seconds!

The workshop is quite nice and providing me a lot of experience. Besides working for Seagate in San jose (in 1997), I have never enjoy a corporate life since then.

Soon after I finished my PhD thesis, I have to take another step of my life to move on for a career life again... I wish that every will be fine @^_^@
